Skin Care & Beauty Hacks I’ll never go without!

Let’s do a little background about my skin. Our skin is the first thing you see, your skin can tell a lot about you. Dull when your tired, flushed or oily can be due to diet or other underlying conditions.

I was blessed with the life long struggles with eczema which results in discoloration, uneven texture. The struggles of being dry and oily all at once. And the inflammations, redness and patches. I was never one to get pimples until later in my adult years. But I’ve experimented with different skin care products/routines to find what worked best for me.

Some of these items aren’t just for eczema and can work for most people addressing certain areas. Also just easy and mostly cheap beauty hacks that I cannot live without ever again!

when coVid hit

I wanted to find alternatives to make up. Avoiding the mask-ne and also I wanted to look at myself in the mirror in the morning and still feel look glowing and refreshed without committing to foundation, concealer, and filling in my eye brows.

Brow tinting

I have fairly light colored brows and I won’t leave home without beautiful sharp edges filled in with my Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Pomade. With natural fluffy brows becoming more in style and after watching a failed Jenna Marbles video trying to tint her brows with Just for Men, I wanted to give it a try myself.

I found a Godefry brow tinting kit on Amazon for about $22 for 20 applications.

It’s much easier than you’d think! There are some application trial and errors (mostly with mixing and timing). Once mixing the face safe hair dye I fill in my brows like I would when doing my brows and viola! Less than five minutes later I have beautiful natural brows that last between 1-2 weeks for me on average no more brow filling and the upkeep is nearly non existent.

FaCe Wash

I’ve tried face washes from clean and clear at CVS to Tatcha which would run you upwards of $65. I believe this face wash became many people’s tried and true this past year Cerave.

There are two different ones that I alternate between:

The Cerave Hydrating Cleanser and the Cerave Foaming Hydrating Cleanser.

The hydrating cleanser is great if you need something more gentle or if you have dry skin like myself. This would like be what I would grab during the winter months. It cleans your face without feeling stripped.

The foaming hydrating cleanser (which is new to the line) is not remotely as hydrating but it really great for cleaning pores and removing make up. It does leave you feeling slightly stripped, but I just recommend lotion up afterwards to avoid excessive dryness. I do find this one beneficial for make up removal or during the summer months where you’ll find you skin on the more oily side.

A 12 ounce bottle will only run you $14.99 and as a daily washer sometimes twice I don’t have to refill nearly as often as brand that give you less like Tatcha.

is it foundation?

I have my Smashbox foundation that I will never trade in for anything. But wearing foundation daily just isn’t reasonable for the health of your skin. Until I came across Iris & Romeo Best Skin Days! They actually do a wonderful job of explaining their product than I could so I’ll allow them to do that below:

This 5-in-1-breakthrough formula is a serum, moisturizer, sheer coverage, sunscreen, and blue light/pollution protector. An instant skin beautifier that gives natural coverage and a dewy, glowy finish, while also protecting against UVA and UVB sunlight and oxidative stress caused from blue light.

It’s so sheer it’s hard to tell if it truly is foundation. It applies like a mousse or moisturizer and makes my skin glow with a natural look. I’m convinced the more I’ve worn it, it improved the texture on my face. This dewy formula may not be best for those in the oily side or who are acne prone. It is on the more expensive side, even more than my foundation at $64.

The Eczema Break Out Savior

This product is likely one I’ve used the longest in this list. I found it in 2008 in high school and it has truly help me keep control of my eczema over the years when I’m having a break out.

Lush’s Dream Cream has been a controversial product in the eczema community due to some of the ingredients can trigger an eczema break out like fragrances. But products like Eucerin weren’t cutting it and nothing worked from my dermatologist and wouldn’t help rid of my scales but actually make them burn. Asides from the oat milk which are great for eczema flares. I’ve also found that ingredients like rose water, blue chamomile oil, and tea tree oil help soothe my skin. I look for these ingredients in most of my products now. I have also found that this cream is great for post shaving or sun exposure as the chamomile oil helps with redness and tea tree oil for inflammation.

Obviously should go without saying, get a sample or small size and test this on your skin first before committing to a full tub.

night time chamomile oil

For daily eczema control I use Sunday Riley’s Luna retinol sleeping night time oil. After washing my face I put this on before my night cream/gel for the evening. I like most of the Sunday Riley line, but since it is on the expensive side at $105 for a 35 mL bottle the rest of the line has similar pricing it’s not normally the first thing I grab off the shelf.

This oil is very light weight and helps keep me hydrated through the morning, but also contains chamomile oil that controls the redness in my skin. This will help me wake up with and even skin tone and smoothed texture.

I have also used this during flare ups to help with longer periods of hydration and tone down the redness.

dr jart changed my life

When I see skin care commercials stating “this product changed my skin forever”. Always sounded like inflated claim. No! I was wrong. Dr Jart is a newer line that has come to my attention with a green line. Once I’ve added this into my routine my skin has never looked better in my life! My skin is actually glowing, my redness and uneven skin tones has virtually vanished. For the first time in my life I feel confident enough to walk out of the house without an ounce of powered, foundation, or tinted moisturizer on my skin.

I use the CICAPAIR™ TIGER GRASS COLOR CORRECTING TREATMENT SPF30
